Welcome to the Leeds University Union AnimeSoc Website!!

Hopefully this website will be a useful guide to what we're up to at the moment, as well as who to get in touch with if you want to know more.

We have a weekly News Section below, which details any upcoming events and anything else we think you should know.

If you want to know more about us generally check out Society Info, or if you want more detail about our on-goings check out the forum!!

End of Term Already? - 11/03/2008

Short yet vital this week. The Thursday showing will go on as normal. Unfortunately, the long awaited bad dub night will not be happening due to a lack of available pubs. Everybody say Awwww. However, despite term finishing, this doesn't mean no Sunday event.
This Sunday will be a double marathon showing, starting at 12.30 with Giant Robo, and then continuing into the evening with an (approximately) 6.30 showing of FLCL.
Both shows are quite silly, so it's a good relaxing way to start your Easter holidays. For those of you not immediately rushing home to mummy and daddy, anyway.

On a more serious and vital note, a date has been decided for our Annual General Meeting. This is when you, the people, get to decide what we, the society, should be doing.
So on the first Thursday back (that's the 17/04/2008), we'll be having serious discussions before watching any anime. Very serious. No jokes allowed.
Primarily, we will be voting on the new commitee for the next year. There are plenty of positions available, and more details are in the forum.
In addition, though, anything you want to bring up should be brought up. Concerns, complaints, and (hopefully), words of praise will all be accepted, so don't be afraid to tell us what you think.

Film Day and Important Hoodie update - Order now! - 05/03/2008

Firstly, this Sunday (09/03/2008) will be our monthly film showing in The Lounge.
We'll be showing:
1pm - Porco Rosso - It's a Ghibli movie. Everyone loves those.
4pm - Mind Game - From the animators of Noiseman Sound Insect and TekkonKinkreet. Pretty weird stuff, but different from normal anime.
7pm - Cromartie High School Live Action - Wacky comedy. Like Azumanga Daioh, if it was a)about blokes and b)batshit insane.

Hoodies Ordering Time - Also, T-shirts. Still.
Right, designs and ordering information are now up in a new thread. The deadline is the Friday the 14th of March, so you have just over a week to decide how much money you want to spend on advertising our society for us.

BARGE - Dates now confirmed as 7-11 of April (NOT 11-13 as previously mentioned). Book now to avoid disappointment!

And, as always, more information on everything, including weekly showings, can be found in the forum.

Lots of events just planned! In other news, updating a website apparently takes 2 months. - 01/03/2008
Current showings are 7-10pm, Meeting Room 2, in the union ARC.

There's a lot of events planned at the minute, so, in order:

Gaming Day - Sunday the 2nd of March
Holy short notice, Batman! Yes, it's that time of the month again, when the union will ring to the cries of people losing at video games. And board games. We'll be in the lounge from 12 noon until 10pm, so feel free to come along and join in. All skill levels and games are accepted, as is anything you want to bring for people to play.

Karaoke Night - Monday the 3rd of March
Apparently there's this thing people like to do where they go to a bar and drink and some of them sing. On Monday night, we have especially booked out a booth or two or three for animesoc members to partake in such activities amongst themselves. Key words here are free and no obligation to sing. Free entry between 9.30 and 10pm (unfortunately it's 3 pounds if you turn up later). It's at OK Karaoke in Leeds, and we're meeting at the Parkinson steps at 9pm to head down together. The more the merrier, so come down for general hanging out even if you don't want to impress us with your dulcet tones.

Barge Trip Weekend - probably 11-13/04/2008
There's a weekend Barge Trip coming up, at the end of the Easter holidays. Full details in the complicated forum topic, but it should cost about 70 quid, and be on those dates. If you definitely want to go, put your name down in the topic, or let Taylor know. But hurry, since we need to book in the next week or two.

Hoodies - Also, T-shirts
We're finally getting these sorted. The design is set (with optional bloody handprint on the back), and there will be three colours, hoodies and t-shirts, optional stitching for personalisation, and various sizes. Apparently girls t-shirts will have fancy things like numbers instead of letters. Prices should be 7 pounds for t-shirts, 17-20 pounds for hoodies depending on how much optional stuff you go for.

And as always, people can be found in the Lounge most days hanging out.
