First showing of the new year!

Greetings and a happy new year(ish) to you all!

If you're anything like me, you've been eagerly awaiting the revival of the ANIMESOC WEEKLY SHOWING. Fear not, young heroes! The day of judgement is coming and upon that very day we shall bask in the awesome of:

- OUR VERY OWN LECTURE THEATRE! You heard it right, people! No longer shall we be blown about like dust in the wind.
- THE COMPANY OF YOUR AWESOME PEOPLE! Darn tootin'! Experience the excitement of sitting in parallel lines of ascending heights with the COOLEST CATS IN TOWN.
- A FAIRLY LARGE SCREEN WITH SPEAKERS THAT ACTUALLY WORK FOR ONCE. No more wallowing in the throes of despair when your committee awkwardly whips out the "Game of hangman?" card!

Our first showing of this brand new year will be held on the 26th of January, with the venue being an old AnimeSoc favourite; the Miall Lecture Theatre.

Bring in up to three anime episodes of your choice, and we'll all take a vote as to what we'll be watching (4 votes each plus 1 randomly chosen episode = 5 episodes of pure, unadulterated awesome!)

We'll be meeting at 17:30 beforehand in the Old Bar, situated in the Leeds University Union building for a good ol' catch-up session!

Afterwards, we'll be heading down to the Hedley Verity for food, drinks and a tour de force of social awesomeness. Oceanographers predict a veritable maelstorm of epicness.

TL/DR; Bring your friends, family and pets! It'll be a night to remember :)

Scifi VS Anime Soc: Fresher's Face-off Gaming Day!!!

Time: 2nd October 3pm-10pm.

Location: Lounge in the Union.

The first of the Gaming days that we run, we take over the entire Lounge in the Union and set up a Nintendo Wii, an Xbox 360, a PS3, a PS2, a Gamecube, a Dreamcast, as many consoles as we can get our hands on really. We set them all up with a variety of games running throughout the day, if you want to bring in some of your favourite multiplayer games to show them off then feel free, you can even bring in non-videogame games to play with, we will have some mah-jong sets, magic the gathering etc... in the room for instance. Later in the day there will be a gaming tournament between Animesoc and Sci-fi soc so we can prove that we're better than they are, and we need our new members to come along and suport us in this, we can't let them win!

we will be in the Lounge between 3 and 10pm so come along for a bit or even all of the time and play some games and potentially win some prizes!

Hoodies

For those of you who have paid already for your hoodies, thank you. If you haven't can you please pay this week as they will be arriving soon and we need the money.

Film Showing

Has been cancelled. Instead we are doing a Ghibli movie marathon.
Date:Sunday 6th March
Time: 15:00-22:00
Place: Meeting Room 2 (Upstairs in the Union)
If you know anything of anime you will know of Studio Ghibli and the amazing films they do. Sometimes they are happy and up-lifting leaving you with that warm fuzzy feeling and at other times they are realistic and, well, depressing (Grave of Fireflies) leaving weeping. If you want to watch some back to back Ghibli with your friends this is the place to be.

Weekend Away

So this year we are travelling the far of distant land of YORK! York is an amazingly beautiful and historic place. It's filled with so much to do and see: Tour buses, the York Dugeons, fancy gardens, the Treasurer's house and A LOT of wonderful pubs.
Estimated date: Friday 8th of April - Sunday 10th April
Travel: If the tickets are booked now the National Express bus is around £8.20 and an Eastcoast open return without railcard is about £12.80
Accommodation: We have two choices:
The YHA York International Hotel is £26.35 per person per night (total of £52.70) for a booking of 12 people. If more want to come the cost may well go down. Also they offer a discount for the York Dungeon tickets and it is close to town.
The other option is the Ace York Boutiquee Hotel. For a dorm of 14 people it is £19.35 per person per night or a 10 person dorm is £21.15 per person per night. And it is apparently right next to the train station and the bus links.
