Society Info
Who are we?
We're a bunch of utter... people. Unified by an interest in Japanese Animation, and ranging from lovely to completely and utterly mad.
You don’t need to be a student to join the society, however we cannot accept members under the age of 18 unless they are members of the Unviersity Union, sorry about this!
Showings?
We meet up every week on a Thursday for the society anime showing. We meet at 5:30 pm in the Old Bar of the Student Union for a drink and a chat before heading to the showing at 6:30pm (location varies)
Each showing consists of 5 episodes of anime, 4 voted in on the day and one wild card. We show a diverse range of anime because it’s up to the members each week to bring in whatever they want to get shown! .
After the showing it’s off to do what students do best – drink! Currently we head to Strawbs then on to Fab Café.
The Library?
Membership entitles you to borrow items from the animesoc library. Ace! The library consists of a vast collection of anime, manga, games, art guides and Japanese music.
Loans are typically 2 weeks, though you can renew items by talking to the Anime/Library Officer. Items are requested via emailing the Anime officer or by putting your name on a sheet passed round at the Thursday Showing. A late fee of 50p per week can be charged.

Examples of Social Events?
Other than the weekly anime showings on a Thursday night, there are various other ongoing events, organized by our social secretaries.
Weekend Away The annual animesoc trip to..wherever. Past locations have included Prague, Blackpool, The Gower (Wales) and misadventures around canals on a barge.
Monthly Film Nights – An anime film showing, usually in one of our university’s lovely lecture theatres. Unlike the weekly showings, the choice of the monthly film will be down to the committee to decide beforehand and will be stated in the email and news page.
Karaoke – Karaoke nights usually take place in either OK Karaoke or D-fusion, and are usually free for entry, though be sure to remember enough cash to cover a few drinks, I hear vodka is good for the voice? ;)
Monthly Gaming Day – Usually take place on Sundays in the Student Union, where gamers both casual and *ahem* obsessive can prat about to their hearts content on various consoles and video games. Usually there is a PS3, X-box360, a wii, a few ps2’s and laptops about, games range from Rock Band to Street Fighter, Mario Kart to DDR.
Marathon Showings – Every so often a Sunday is set aside to watching a series of anime back to back (usually one of 13~ episodes). Don’t worry, breaks are allowed! .
Cosplay Events – From workshops and convention trips to Cosplay otley runs!
Other than these regular socials, other events are thrown into the mix, including bowling trips, conventions, and society meals.
The Forum?
Signing up to the Anime Society Forum is a MUST for all members, and even potential members! It’s here that members can be free to socialize (and quite frankly, dick about!) and keep up to date with events and friends.
The Lounge? A place to hang out with us EVERY DAY?
Not to be underestimated in terms of its socializing power, and also its addictiveness, The Lounge is the society’s black hole. Once you go in you may never wish to leave it again. More than a few of us have whiled away entire days there instead of writing our essays. Hidden away between Essensials and Extras, most students are generally ignorant of the lounge. Good thing too, it’s generally full of US. The lounge is generally a place of socializing, lunch, resting (read ‘dossing’) and laptops.
