Who are we?

A hard question to answer! We?re a bunch of very diverse individuals, mostly university students, coming from varying backgrounds, with a large variety of interests. However, we are united by one thing ? our interest in anime (Japanese animation)!! If you?re new to anime, or have not seen much yet, please don?t let this put you off joining. Many of our current members had seen little or, in fact, no anime before joining. The vast majority of our members are very friendly and welcoming, and are always eager to help. But we?re more than this? over the last few years we?ve become a real community. We?ve expanded the society to encompass member interests other than anime, and have changed the constitution to reflect this. All in all, if you?re looking to find out more about anime or Japanese popular culture, or are just looking to find somewhere you can relax and socialise with like-minded individuals, Anime Soc is the place to be.

What do we do?

So, we?ve established the society is made up of awesome, but what do we do exactly? Well the obvious answer is watch anime. We have weekly showings on Thursdays, between 7-10pm in Meeting Room 2 (in the ARC, upstairs in the Union). In these showings, our members bring along anime that they?d like the rest of the society to watch, and this is then voted on. Typically we watch five shows a week, usually of a good variety. However, anime is just the beginning!! After the weekly showing we generally have a social, where the society just goes and hangs out, and has a good time. Also, new to this year, we are having Sunday events, alternating between Marathon Series Showings, Film Showings, and Gaming usually be in the Lounge in the union (behind Essentials). As if this isn?t enough, we also generally have a collective society lunch every weekday in the Lounge, where everyone just comes and hangs out (often till the evening). For the more active and less embarrassed amongst you, we also have ?ParaPara? dancing sessions. This form of Japanese dancing involves lots of hand movements, often put to Japanese pop and Eurobeat. It can be quite demanding, but people of all abilities are encouraged, and it?s not taken too seriously, acting more as a social activity. Last, but not least, are all the many member and society organised events, which vary immensely in scope and type...but are always good fun.
